It might be worth noting that I haven’t been able to figure out exactly what the problem with the 2.4GHz band is. Poor color saturation.
Also, I suspect that there was something in the neighborhood that interfered with the 2.4GHz band.
After splitting the bands, some devices that were not compatible with 5GHz started working fine in the 2.4GHz band. I’m not sure if it was because I had less bandwidth, or if the devices themselves didn’t need a lot of bandwidth to work (e.g. ecobee thermostats, smart light bulbs, Anova water immersion devices).
Same when I tried the Linksys Try-band Mesh System, it didn’t have a lot of customization settings, but I discovered during troubleshooting that it had a “secret” advanced setting. To get these advanced settings, do a factory reset and set up your system from scratch.
It might just be your router, but you don’t have to reconnect all your devices. Just keep the old network name and PW the same on the newly split 5GHz band, everything with a 5GHz connection will automatically reconnect after setup.
For the 2.4GHz band, we used the same name as the 5GHz band and added “2.4GHz” to the end of the network name to differentiate.
I’m not sure if I explained it clearly.
