According to Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) statistics, foreign direct investment in Bulgaria in the first 10 months of 2022 is €1.5 billion, equivalent to 1.9% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
FDI for the same period in 2021 was €1.37 billion, while the original amount reported by BNB last year was €1.14 billion, which was later revised upwards.
Investments in equities, including the real estate sector, showed inflows of €214.9m (compared with outflows of €146.4m in January-October 2021), with reinvested earnings of 881m reached million euros. Same time last year.
Net income from property investment by foreign companies recorded an outflow of €23 million in the first ten months of 2022, compared with an outflow of €8.5 million in the same period last year. BNB noted that there was a net outflow of his €18.7m real estate investment to Russia.
Central bank data show the change in net indebtedness of Bulgarian companies to foreign investor owners compared to an outflow of €164.7m in the first 10 months of 2021. It showed investment inflows of €401 million. According to BNB, it includes financial loans, supplier credit and debt securities.
By country, the largest direct investments in Bulgaria from January to October 2022 were Cyprus (€378.5 million), Belgium (€213.7 million) and Austria (€189.3 million) . Notable net outflows to the Netherlands (-€281.2m) and Hong Kong (-€47.8m) were recorded.
According to BNB, preliminary figures show that Bulgaria’s foreign investment increased by €396.7 million from January to October, compared with €167.1 million in the same period last year.
