A Swiss-based IT professional has taken the concept of using Bitcoin’s Lightning network to a whole new level by surgically implanting an NFC chip into his hand.
Cointelegraph reports that the individual, who goes by the pseudonym F418, decided to experiment with body mods and the Lightning Network for fun, but advised other Bitcoin enthusiasts not to follow in his footsteps. doing.
F418 first tried to use the implant at the LN-friendly Plan B Lugano meeting, but unfortunately the chip was defective. He visited a medical professional to have the implant removed and tried again with a new chip, which was successful. The chip is now on the F418’s left hand, allowing Lightning to make payments for his network simply by holding your hand near a compatible NFC reader.
Implants are medically safe, but F418 says they are not as safe as Bolt Cards and should only be used for LNURL withdrawals. Additionally, the embedding process itself can be risky. Removing the chip after implantation can cause harm or infection. For these reasons, F418 opposes this procedure, suggesting that most people will stick to using cards or smartphones for payment.
F418 has open-sourced the entire chip-implanting process and made it available on GitHub under the name “Lightning Paw”.
